The annual Ministry Catalyst Social Justice Retreat will be from Nov. 15-17 at the Brother David Darst Retreat Center in Chicago. The retreat is a weekend immersion that will provide students the opportunity to gain insight into poverty by seeing it vividly, feeling it intensely and more fully understanding poverty’s causes. This year’s theme is focused on radical hospitality and the idea that it’s not who you are, it’s where you are.
During the weekend, students will visit shelters and soup kitchens, tour Chicago neighborhoods and listen to the stories of those impacted by homelessness and extreme poverty. The mission of this retreat is to allow those attending to encounter God through the people and places they meet, discover what it means to live in faith and be a catalyst for peace and justice in the world.
The Catalyst Student Leadership Team dedicates the fall semester to becoming a tight-knit community who, inspired by their faith, seeks to educate other students on campus about the importance of working for social justice. To accomplish this, the leadership team participates in service and justice projects that allow them to learn about current world issues while practicing prayerful reflection.
Members of the Student Leadership Team include Jazmin Ramirez, Elizabeth Anderson, Ayanna Squires, Jessica, Sean Darke and Emily Brabham who is the University Minister and coordinator of the Social Justice Formation.
